Handling time in software seems simple, until it isn’t. From daylight savings quirks to database inconsistencies and user-local conversions, timezones can quietly turn into one of your biggest sources of bugs. In this talk, we’ll unravel the paradox of time in Python and Django: how something so universal can be so tricky to get right. You’ll learn how Django handles datetime objects and best practices for ensuring your applications stay consistent across users, systems, and regions. By the end, you’ll be equipped with practical techniques and mental models to make your Django apps truly timezone-safe, and your logs, reports, and users finally in sync.

About Denny

I’m a freelance Full Stack Developer based in Italy, with over 18 years in the industry, working remotely with clients across the globe. My core stack is Python & Django on the backend and Vue.js on the frontend, complemented by a growing love for Rust and systems programming.

Beyond the code, I’m an active international conference speaker, covering topics from Django migrations and state management to code quality in distributed teams and Rust web frameworks. I’ve also been a DjangoGirls coach since 2016, helping more women get started in web development across Europe.

I believe great software comes from clarity of thought, clean architecture, and teams that communicate well, which is why I speak and write about both the technical and human sides of building software.
